About: The Concept

Where Modern Entertains Tradition

MET Back Bay, the latest venture from restaurateur Kathy Trustman. Located in the heart of Boston’s posh Back Bay neighborhood, MET Back Bay occupies an historic 1877 brick townhouse on the corner of Newbury and Dartmouth Streets. The space has been meticulously renovated and is modern, elegant and comfortable while paying homage to the classic style and timeless beauty of the building and surrounding neighborhood. MET Back Bay’s menu blends new American cooking with contemporary continental cuisine and embraces quintessential New England ingredients.

Trustman has lived all her life in Boston, in and around the city’s distinctive food culture. She learned the food business at her father, Jack Sidell’s side as he helped shape the Boston’s restaurant scene we still know today. MET Back Bay is Trustman’s homage to the city she loves – the quintessential Boston eatery where you can enjoy luscious home-made pastries at breakfast, classic chopped salads at noon, signature fish and meat entrees in the evening and simple scrambled eggs at midnight.

Trustman, a passionate cook herself, owns The Metropolitan Club in Chestnut Hill and MET Bar & Grill in Dedham and Natick. MET Back Bay represents the fourth collaboration between Trustman and Executive Chef Todd Winer. On Dartmouth Street, they have created an atmosphere of hip sophistication and devised an unparalleled food experience full of fresh ideas and historic perspective.

MET Back Bay is located in the former home of Joseph’s, a landmark restaurant of an earlier time. As a tip of the hat, MET Back Bay will serve up-to-the minute interpretations of some of Joseph’s classics. Traditional Oyster Rockefeller and Clams Casino will be mingled with MET’s popular baked crab wrap -- chunks of king crab, tempura avocado, warm creamy coconut rice, baked in a soy wrapper. Similarly, Joseph’s popular shrimp curry will be reinterpreted to reflect MET Back Bay’s fresh sensibility.

Prime steak, tuna toro and other tartares will be prepared to order, tableside. Unique salads are offered in full or half sizes. Large signature salads like the Chinatown with crispy duck and five spice pecans and an offering of small seasonal favorites to choose from, starring heirloom tomatoes, house-made burricotta, and rainbow roasted beets, your salad craving will surely be sated.

MET Back Bay’s original dishes are featured side-by-side top-selling burgers from Trustman’s Natick and Dedham Burger Bars and signature bar food and other favorites from the MET CLUB in Chestnut Hill.
MET Back Bay provides a complete and varied dining experience. If you’re in the mood for a quick, casual bite at the bar or a long, festive and elegant dinner for family and friends or an intimate midnight snack in a romantic corner, you’ll find the perfect spot at MET Back Bay.

Distinct and welcoming areas make up the three original historic townhouses. The full MET Back Bay menu is available throughout.

  • The Living Room seats 90 people. Floor to ceiling windows overlook Newbury Street and bring a bit of the city inside. Original moldings and ceilings have been lovingly restored. Contemporary Venetian glass chandeliers add a romantic glow to the room.
  • The Library is a traditionalist’s dream. Offering oversized classic cocktails and signature drinks, old school bartenders will chip ice from large blocks behind the bar and squeeze fruit juices to order.
  • MET BAR Game Room is your neighborhood bar where you can grab a bite, drink with friends, watch the Red Sox and more. Home-cured meats, domestic cheeses and artisanal breads are the stars at our American Ham and Cheese Bar, downstairs at MET Back Bay.
  • The Terrace seats 60 guests and is gas heated. It’s available as long as the weather allows so you can watch the passing scene in our beautiful garden even on cool days

Adjacent to MET Back Bay is Townhouse a unique, private dining space and lounge accommodating 80 guests. Townhouse is available for events year round.

All of us at MET Back Bay are thrilled to have restored this historic location and to bring our unique Boston-inspired cooking to Newbury & Dartmouth”, Trustman said. “Whether you stop by for a signature burger in the Library, plan a festive dinner in the Living Room or simply hang out with friends at MET BAR Playroom, we promise terrific food and drink, striking settings and memorable experiences. We're looking forward to serving Bostonians and visitors alike for years to come.”
